SET celebrates keel laying of second HADAG ferry

At SET in Tangermünde, the keel-laying ceremony for the second of a total of three Hamburg HADAG ferries has now also taken place, while the first is under construction. The start of production for the third and final ferry is scheduled for autumn.

The ferries were first ordered from SET last summer. The first ship is scheduled to enter service on the Elbe River as early as the beginning of next year – followed by ships two and three in the course of the year.

As with the first ship, a 2-euro coin embossed with the Elbphilharmonie was placed under the hull at the start of assembly for future luck and success.

With a shortened travel time from 15 to 10 minutes thanks to diesel range extenders and a ship lengthening to about 33 meters, the ferries will now carry up to 250 guests on route 62.

The number of passengers carried by HADAG ferries in the port of Hamburg and on the Elbe has more than tripled in recent years to around 10 million. Within the hvv transport association, the 26 HADAG ships travel a distance of more than 330,000 nm annually on seven lines with 20 berths, departing more than 180,000 times.
