Saxony-Anhalt Minister President Haseloff visits SET shipyard in Tangermünde
On Monday, July 8, we proudly welcomed Saxony-Anhalt's Minister President Reiner Haseloff to the SET shipyard in Tangermünde. Full order books, a lack of competition and much more - all this was discussed during the two-hour tour.
SET Managing Director Olaf Deter reports to Haseloff and his companions from politics and business that 80 percent of all new inland waterway vessels in Germany come from Saxony-Anhalt. Haseloff believes that the whole state and many more people need to know about this.
During his tour, the head of the state also learns that SET offers everything from a single source, from design and planning to execution. With a history of more than 150 years, SET started building new ships in 1990 and has since built 217 new vessels.
The Minister President was interested to find out about the order situation, apprenticeships and the problems that shipbuilding has to contend with at this location.
The water level in the Elbe is a recurring problem. So SET decided to invest in a transport dock that is 13 by 50 meters in size and can transport ships and which is built by the shipyard itself. Because “it's no use building ships here if we can't get them away,” says Olaf Deter.
The managing director is unconcerned about the order situation, as there is almost no competition in Germany for special ships such as the HADAG ferries for Hamburg's ferry fleet and oil catchers for coastal protection.
